Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Peace,

It was on April 2, 1944 – seventy years ago – that a group of Catholics living in the Maple Meade area of North Brunswick met for Mass for the first time in a rented house on Church Lane. From those humble beginnings, Our Lady of Peace Parish has grown over the years. The original chapel was built on our current property in 1947, and many of you may remember when our current Church was a field of grass, trees, and a few picnic tables. Becoming an independent parish on November 8, 1969, the need for a larger building was apparent, and in 1973, the Parish Center became our home for the next nineteen years. And on October 24, 1992, the dream became a reality with the dedication of our magnificent church – a spiritual home! Now, as we celebrate 55 years as a parish and 32 years in this building, some of the major physical components – all originals - are in need of replacement and repair.

The roof of the chapel as well as the Church’s cooling system need to be replaced. Additionally, the parking lot need to be repaired. Estimates for these projects are currently $440,000. Of this amount, $240,000 to come from the parish contingency fund and $200,000 to come from fundraising efforts. We have a core group of parishioners who have developed some worthwhile fundraising ideas. The Barometer in front of the church will allow everyone to watch our progress.

A “Raise the Roof” Gala will kick start this capital campaign on Saturday, October 12th at 6:30 pm in the Parish Center. There will be dinner and dancing and lots of time to socialize with fellow Parish supporters. The ticket price is $60.00 per person. I hope to see you there! In addition, we have been offering two items for purchase. The first is a keepsake brass ornament of the original stained glass featured in The Heritage Room, to be sold at $25.00. The second is a 4”x8” Commemorative brick with laser engraving sold for $200.00 each. These bricks will be placed in 2025 and circle the perimeter of the front piazza. You can purchase ornaments and pick up a form in the Narthex after Mass, and additionally bricks can be ordered on our website, OLOPNB.org.
The key to any capital campaign is the people, their devotion to the project and the sacrificial monetary donation they are willing to make to see the project come to fruition. Please know that we are asking for your help as loyal parishioners and long time friends of our beloved parish. It is our Church home, one we need to maintain as we maintain our own homes. We also understand that, for a variety of reasons, some of you may not be financially able to support this effort at this time. Know that we are grateful for your prayers that the project will find success.
